Super Bowl Sunday is this weekend in South Lake Tahoe!

Are you Ready for Super Bowl?

Whether you’re a football fanatic or a fair weather fan, it’s hard to ignore the largest T.V event in North America.  Super Bowl Sunday has become a tradition among Americans and here in South Lake Tahoe it has become a semi-holiday. In town there are a handful of sports bars like Brothers, Mo’s and (our favorite) Steamers that will have deals on food and drinks.  The casinos are also a hot spot for Super Bowl viewing with their numerous flat screens and never ending beer and food.

Many will gather at these local establishments but many more will head over to a friend’s house with the biggest T.V to spend an intimate afternoon cheering loudly for teams and over indulging in everything bacon wrapped.  Wherever you decide to spend your Super Bowl, make sure to get a sober driver to take you home as their will be police checkpoints through the town in South Lake Tahoe.

Bacon wrapped Jalapenos are the Perfect Super Bowl food.

If you’re still undecided on what to bring to your Super Bowl gathering, we suggest trying these little bad boys.  If you’ve made them before, then you know how delicious they are, and if you have never made them then prepare to meet your match. Anything bacon wrapped always goes over well at our gatherings so we’re sure they’ll be a hit at yours too!

Ingredients:

  • 10 Fresh jalapenos
  • 1 package of soften cream cheese
  • 1 pound of bacon

Directions:

Cut the jalapenos in half and remove the seeds and white membranes.  You might want to wear gloves for this part.  Fill the jalapenos with the soften cream cheese.  This is the part where you can get creative. Some people add cooked sausage or blue cheese and a mix of different seasoning.  It’s really up to you! Then take a strip of uncooked bacon and wrap that puppy up and secure with a toothpick.  Place on a pan with a rack. This allows the bacon goodness to drip away. Place in a preheated oven at 375 degrees for 20 minutes or until bacon is cooked. Then get ready to enjoy the best appetizer you have ever had!  Enjoy!

Old Man Winter is fianlly Awake!

Our mountains are finally turning white!

Although it appears that Old Man Winter slept through the first part of his winter shift in South Lake Tahoe, it seems that he finally might be waking up and getting busy releasing the storms. Or maybe it was the millions of snow dances and snow prayers that did it, but either way some much needed and welcomed weather in finally moving in. The first of three storms struck in South Lake Tahoe yesterday January 19th leaving the Ski Resorts and snow enthusiast asking for more. The second storm that is rolling in is supposed to be the real deal bringing the white fluffy stuff by the feet at lake level.

Even though the weather has been bizarre for the beginning of winter it did give everyone a chance to get out and tackle that hike they had been putting off all summer. It also gave hikers the opportunity to walk and ice skate on many of frozen lakes that are normally inaccessible without snowshoes or cross county skis.

Hikers and Ice skaters were enjoying frozen Eagle Lake last weekend.

We don’t like to complain about the weather in South Lake Tahoe because you know how the local saying goes…”If you don’t like the weather, then wait 10 minutes”. Well, it looks like those 10 minutes are up and snow is finally in the forecast.

Just in case you’re thinking of making a spur of the moment trip to South Lake Tahoe here are links to the local ski resorts to see the conditions for yourself. Stay safe and enjoy the snowy weekend!

Take hike at Sorenson’s near Lake Tahoe

The Drive to Sorenson's is Beautiful

If you ever thing you are bored in South Lake Tahoe then are not trying hard enough to entertain yourself.  While some may wonder “what is there to do in South Lake Tahoe beside ski or play at the lake?” Well these people are obviously not residents and have not put much thought behind their words.

True Lake Tahoe residents know that we live in a year round playground with the only limitations being our desire and physical strength.

Fall or the “off season” as it is so fondly called, is one of the most quite and beautiful times in South Lake Tahoe.  The boats have been pull and winterized for the season, and the air turns crisp and clean in the early morning hours.  There are many actives in the Fall such as Food Fest and the Kokanee Fest but there is even more to do outside! The end of October is the perfect time to take a hike and enjoy some of the fall colors.

If you are looking for a real fall treat for your eyes then head out past Christmas Valley on highway 89.  Take your time as you climb through the pass and large meadows. It’s a quick 11 miles until you reach highway 88.  Once you hit highway 88 take a left.  After quick 2 miles you’ll arrive at Sorensen’s Resorts.  You’ll know you’re getting close when you start to see the bright burst of gold and red.  Sorensen’s Resorta great little rustic in that is complete surrounded by cliffs, rivers and trees.  If you park along the road right before Sorensen’s Resort there is a little fire road that leads up the cliffs towering over the resort.  Grab you camera and a bottle of water and prepare to be amazed. The hike in total is about 5 miles round trip and well worth it.

The Fall colors are Stunning

If 5 miles seems like a bit far, then take your pick at the numerous view and look out points along the left hand side of the trail all within 1 mile from the start or the trail.   Is is just why so many people dream of calling Lake Tahoe their home.  If you think you’re ready to live the Tahoe Lifestyle please contact us with any of your real estate questions.

Spend a Day in El Dorado at Apple Hill

While the month of October always brings Oktoberfest, the Fall Food Fest and other events to the South Lake Tahoe area, we can’t help but get excited to know that Apple Hill season had arrived too!  Apple Hill is located just 40 minutes from the “Y” in South Lake Tahoe and is something that locals and visitors look forward to each year.

The American River and the chaning Aspen tress make for a beautiful Picture

Hop on highway 50 and head down what is sure to be a very beautiful drive along the American River.  Make sure to pull off on the side and have an impromptu photo shoot with the stunning mountain side as your backdrop.  The Aspen trees are changing and the American River is still flowing and this memorable drive is worth the trip itself.

Once you’re done with your photo shoot, then continue down 50 until you see the signs for Apple Hill.  Take your pick of where you would like to start, be it wineries, apple orchards, pumpkin patches or Christmas Tree farms.  If you’ve got the kids in tow, then maybe starting at a pumpkin patch would be the way to go.  This is not your run of the mill pumpkin patch where perfectly shaped pumpkins are perched high on their hay bale stools.

Get your Pumkins striagth from the Vine in Apple Hill

These are very down to earth pumpkins, and many of the patches let you clip your pumpkin straight from the vines.  If sampling some wine is more to your taste, then have your pick of some of the finest wineries El Dorado has to offer such as the Boeger Winery, Lava Cap winery or the Madrona Vineyards.

Apple Hill is a great way to spend the day if you’re looking to get out of South Lake Tahoe for the day. If you’ve got time on your way back, make sure to check out some of the lovely Lake Tahoe cabins in the charming areas of Strawberry and Kyberz.  While South Lake Tahoe is one of the most beautiful areas to be, it’s always nice to have a change of scenery once in a while.  Make sure to get out there and enjoy the fall season of the Lake Tahoe area.
